Our clients are low-income women in recovery who head up their households and we want to help them learn how to feed their families a healthy diet on only $10/day. Offered in conjunction with MyMoneyWorkshop, help us offer this exciting new program to teach the women about affordable healthy food, provide field trips to the grocery store to menu plan, and offer 1-1 mentoring and seed money for the women when they try their hand at grocery shopping on their own.
One of the major goals for people in recovery is making healthy choices – spiritually, emotionally, physically and financially. Nutrition is a key component in this newfound life. But what if you are of limited means? What if you are responsible for the care and welfare of your young family?
The “Eating Smarter on $10/day” program is an innovative pilot that can transform the lives of 10 head of household women by offering hands-on guidance on shopping for smarter, healthier, less expensive food choices. Women in this program will be offered a unique experience that will allow them to learn the secrets of using fresher, less-expensive ingredients to feed their families, as well as how to cook for several meals at once as opposed to just one at a time.
Shopping alongside experts in community grocery stores, participants will be able to use their knowledge to produce cost-effective and healthier meals for themselves and their children. Real world experience will then be used in the classroom to be able to improve on the successes and set the woman up for lifelong healthier, financially smart eating patterns, as well as teach healthy habits to a younger generation.
The incremental cost for a nutrition trainer per woman per week is $10.63.
Cost to provide hands-on training for making cost effective meals for 10 women in recovery x 8 weeks x 10.63 = $850
