Donated towards $1350.00 Goal

Music helps people of all ages and abilities communicate and express themselves in a meaningful way. Abilis introduced a Drum Circle Program about six months ago for adults with developmental disabilities in our day programs, including some who are nonverbal and wheelchair-bound.
The Drum Circle sessions energized our clients and facilitated strong bonds between the participants and the Abilis staff who support them. It quickly became a favorite activity that not only created a palpable sense of joy, but also led to important gains in hand/eye coordination, focus, social connections, and communication skills.
See our participants in action in this recent Drum circle video:
Evelyn, pictured in the photograph above and in the video, becomes more verbal, focused, and physically engaged during Drum Circle sessions. She welcomes the opportunity to perform musical solos that set the rhythm for others to join in.
An hour-long Drum Circle session costs $225. Abilis hopes to raise $1,350, so we can expand the program to include six additional bimonthly sessions to benefit young adults in our Life Skills program. Your donation will help Abilis expand this enriching program so that 28 young adults, ages 21-30 can develop the communication, social, and motor skills they need to lead more independent and socially connected lives.
Cost to provide 6 bimonthly Drum Circle sessions to young adults with special needs and communication challenges: $1,350
