Donated towards $2265.00 Goal
May 2, 2017
Our Open Door Shelter clients are adults, children, and families in the community who are hungry.
Several times a week we have to turn away food donations because we don’t have a place to store frozen goods in bulk. Please help us buy a new commercial freezer so we can store more food in bulk and in turn give to our neighbors who don’t have enough to eat.
Our clients are hungry. We send clients home with bags full of groceries to get them through the end of the month so they don’t have to choose between food and rent or food and medical treatment.
It may surprise you to know that more than 1 in 8 Connecticut residents struggle to get enough to eat throughout the year. Hunger in our community is real. No one in our community should have to go hungry!
Between The Open Door Shelter’s food pantry and the hot meals we serve every day in our kitchen, we provided almost 400,000 meals to people in need in 2016. For many people in our community, the food they receive from The Open Door Shelter makes it possible for them to stay in their homes.
Instead of having to choose between food and rent, families are able to get a good meal without draining their resources.
Cost of a commercial freezer: $2,265
