Donated towards $5000.00 Goal
27 Days to go
We are raising money to hold a community organizing effort in Marion, Ohio that will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders to build local capacity to turn the tide on addiction. The “Ice in My Veins” challenge will help to promote awareness concerning alcohol and other drug problems plaguing the health of our community.
According to popular nationally-ranked basketball player Ed McCants, “Ice in my veins is a well-known basketball phrase which metaphorically means your team is down and out, and when things look most improbable a player comes through, makes a big play and is said to have ‘ice water in their veins’. For many facing addiction this takes a literal meaning of making a clutch play that can win your life back!”
We are challenging people to shoot free throws through adversity to show how hard overcoming addiction can be. Nominated participants will be filmed shooting free throws while standing in a bucket of ice water. Participants will shoot free throws and donate a monetary increment for each subsequent miss. This project will raise funds for Danbury-based Facing Addiction’s programs in Central Ohio.
Pete Frates, creator of the original Ice Bucket Challenge, turned 33 this year, so we’re honoring his contribution while running a new spin off of the original Ice Bucket Challenge!
This contest will build community awareness and provide education and training services to the Marion, Ohio area by raising funds to:
- Host a training on community organizing skills
- Develop goals aimed at raising community awareness
- Identify additional goals necessary in each community
- Design strategies & tactics in order to attain these goals, with ongoing assistance from Facing Addiction
Cost to run the Ice in My Veins contest and create a video to raise awareness of and create solutions to the national addiction crisis: $5,000
