Connect-Us is raising $2,400 to fund the launch of the Bridgeport Young Leaders Summer Fellowship Program!

Our goal is to host 2 youth leaders from the Bridgeport community for a 6-week, paid fellowship with Connect-Us to help lead our outreach and organizing efforts, and train directly with our executive director in community development and grassroots activism in order to introduce to and engage 500 people in our free community programs!

Connect-Us programs offer young adults in Bridgeport an opportunity to broaden their horizons with tools to navigate our increasingly complex world. These free afterschool programs are designed to reach the bottom 90% of inner-city youth in Bridgeport, CT and provide them with substantial opportunities to create success in their lives.

The summer months are a crucial time for our community organizing efforts.

As Bridgeport buzzes with the energy of summertime, we hit the streets each week to spark conversations on sidewalks, bus stops, in front of grocery stores, and the like, to invite young people and their families to participate in the Connect-Us programs.

Last summer, we spoke to 250 people and registered 150 participants for our programs.

This summer, we want to double that.

Connect-Us is raising $2,400 to fund the launch of the Bridgeport Young Leaders Summer Fellowship Program.

With the help of our fellows, we plan to have 500 community conversations and register 300 participants for our free afterschool enrichment programs this summer.

The $2,400 raised through this project support the activity of our youth fellows:

  • 2 fellows
  • 10-15 hours per week
  • $15 an hour
  • 6 weeks total

All other expenses (marketing, hiring, training, overhead, transportation, materials, etc.) will be provided by Connect-Us.

Sample topics for the fellowship curriculum:

  • Week 1: Introduction to Community Organizing
  • Week 2: Developing a Leadership Performance (public speaking and presence)
  • Week 3: Grassroots Organizing: History and Tactics
  • Week 4: Creating and Managing an Outreach Plan (in person and online)
  • Week 5: Young People Leading Young People
  • Week 6: Next Steps for Community Action

Cost to fund the launch of the Bridgeport Young Leaders Summer Fellowship Program: $2,400
