The opioid crisis has hit Fairfield County’s towns and cities hard – 45 residents of Stamford alone have died of an overdose in the last five years according to the Connecticut Coroner’s Office. Overdose deaths in other area towns in the same period include: 20 in Greenwich; 10 in Fairfield; and six in Ridgefield. Nearly all of these deaths were white males, and most were below the age of 39. Liberation could have prevented most if not all of these deaths – we have been saving lives from opioid and other addictions since 1971.

While addiction and overdose affect every stratum of our community, perhaps those who are hit hardest are those with the least resources to start with. At Liberation House – our Stamford inpatient program for men that serves approximately 300 individuals per year – too many of the men arrive on our doorstep with nothing but the clothes they are wearing.

These men need just a little bit of help from you! They want desperately to become productive, contributing members of society, and, by seeking help at Liberation House, they are truly on the way. But, what to most of us is basic – toothpaste, shaving cream, soap, a notebook and pen to write down our thoughts – are things that most men arrive at Liberation House without.

We need $3,000 to purchase and assemble welcome kits for as many as 200 men who need them at Liberation House over the next year. Each welcome packet will include:

• hygiene items
• shaving kits
• a GED study guide
• notebooks and pens for journaling and taking notes during workshops.

Liberation works with each man individually, focusing on his strengths and working toward goals. The welcome kits we seek your help getting will help new clients feel more comfortable and at home, and will give practical items to help them start regaining their self-respect and productivity.

Cost to provide welcome kits to 200 men working through addiction: $3000
