Pacific House mens’ emergency shelter, located at 597 Pacific Street in Stamford, CT, works with homeless men and young adults and helps them gain access to healthcare, find jobs, continue their education, secure housing, and live independent lives.

We are looking to raise enough money to purchase one more laptop for a young man studying for his SATs and living in our emergency shelter!

“Jay” came to the shelter after living in Bridgeport with his family who relied on him for financial support. Jay worked while in high school and upon graduating, he continued to help out with bills. The situation took its toll as Jay was torn between becoming the independent young man he wanted to become or continue living at home. Eventually he and a roommate found an apartment and Jay worked two jobs to earn enough for himself and still help his family.

As expenses became higher than income, Jay was evicted and ended up at Pacific House. Hard-working and reliable, Jay was committed to finding a way to rise above his circumstances and be on his own. Thankfully, the shelter had just launched the new Young Adult Program and Jay saw his path!

Through this program, we are helping three young adult clients- Jay being one – navigate the college application process – including getting them help to prepare for taking the SAT test (via a partnership with Bulldog Tutors from Yale) – but we need your help getting the critical tools they need. One of our young clients has already managed to make this leap to college, and we are dedicated to helping other young men do so as well.

We are asking you to help provide a laptop computer for Jay – a computer that he can use to study for the SAT’s to help him prepare as he heads off to college. Students now take their own computers to school to help them study, take notes and stay organized. Jay will also take his computer to college as he has already applied to an engineering program at two schools!

The pressure to succeed is amplified when the stakes are so high.  Your gift here can help change the trajectory of a young man’s life – out of homelessness and into college with a fresh start!

Number needed:  1 laptop computer: $750 each

Total Cost to purchase 1 laptop computer: $750
