Have you ever wanted to take your Christmas family photos in a historic 19th century mansion?
So many families visit the Lockwood-Mathews during the holiday season because so much of our local history and people’s roles in the community can be told through this home’s story, which we’d like to share with everyone this year.
But it takes time for the curator and team to set up the trees, decorations, gifts and toys. In addition, Historical Societies will not loan artifacts to an institution unless they know that a museum has that specialized curator available because vintage and antique artifacts can be damaged very easily if not handled properly.
Labels and didactic panels (the small plaques next to pieces of art that identify the artist, year, title, etc.) need to be written and designed. And most curators don’t have all the artifacts that they want and need for an exhibit so loans are a necessity for most curators at historic house museums.
We would like to share this fascinating history with communities throughout lower Fairfield County and all of our children! Help Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum offer an extraordinary view of the holidays and come celebrate with us the holiday beauty and magic at the first Mansion ever built in the United States.
Selfies and photos for a memorable Christmas card are encouraged!
The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, a National Historic Landmark since 1971 and a 2017 recipient of a national award from the American Association of State and Local History, will explore the history of the holiday season from the 1860s through the 1930s, as it was celebrated by the Lockwood and Mathews families in Norwalk, Connecticut and New York City, where they once resided.
Cost to procure historic items and set up a holiday exhibit: $1,000
