CGC’s Child First program works with our most vulnerable young children and families, providing intensive, home-based services. Through this program we empower parents to create a stable, nurturing, and responsive care-giving environments that promote the healthy development and emotional security and safety of their child.
The absence of responsive and nurturing relationships impairs brain development of young children leading to lifelong struggles in behavioral and emotional development and physical health. Our Child First team goes into homes, helping to strengthen the attachment relationship between the parent and child.
The team uses toys to help parents play with their child, and to help the child tell their story and express their emotions. For play therapy we use pretend play toys (cars, people figures, animals), crayons/markers, puzzles, balls, board games, and sensory toys (Play-Doh, slime, moon sand). We have to replace these items frequently as toys get damaged, and we often do not let more than one family share sensory items to prevent the spreading of germs.
Please help strengthen families by assisting the Child Guidance Center in replacing toys for our Child First program!
Cost to replace a set of toys per each family served through CGC of Southern CT’s Child First program: $250
